Hougang United head on the road for the first time in the 2026/27 Singapore Premier League season on Friday evening as the Cheetahs face FC Jurong at Jurong East Stadium.
After an encouraging opening night at Bishan Stadium, attention now turns to Matchday 2 and another demanding early-season test for Akbar Nawas' side.
The Cheetahs began the new campaign with a 2-2 draw against reigning champions Lion City Sailors last Saturday.
Ayman Kassimi opened the scoring after cutting inside from the right, before Oakley Cannonier doubled the advantage following excellent work from captain Zulqarnaen Suzliman.
The Sailors eventually responded through Antonio Mance before finding a late equaliser following a VAR review, but Hougang stood firm through 12 minutes of additional time to secure a point from the opening fixture.
There were plenty of encouraging signs from a significantly refreshed Hougang squad, and the focus now shifts towards building on that performance in our first away fixture of the season.
OUR OPPONENTS
FC Jurong could hardly have asked for a stronger start to their campaign.
Friday's hosts opened their season with an impressive 0-4 victory over Young Lions at Jalan Besar Stadium on Sunday.
FC Jurong went into the interval two goals ahead before adding another two late in the contest, beginning their season with three points and a clean sheet.
The result leaves FC Jurong at the top of the Singapore Premier League table after the opening round of fixtures, with four goals scored and none conceded.
That sets up an intriguing Matchday 2 encounter at Jurong East Stadium, with both sides looking to build on positive opening performances.
BUILDING FROM MATCHDAY 1
For Hougang, Friday provides an opportunity to carry the positives from our opening performance into another challenging fixture.
The Cheetahs showed attacking threat against the defending champions, with Kassimi and Cannonier both opening their league accounts for the club.
At the other end, Takahiro Koga produced a number of important saves, while the team showed determination to withstand sustained pressure during the closing stages.
With many members of the squad still at the beginning of their first Singapore Premier League campaign together, every competitive match provides another opportunity for the group to continue developing its understanding on the pitch.
The challenge now is to take that momentum on the road.
FIRST AWAY NIGHT
Friday will mark Hougang United's first away fixture of the 2026/27 campaign.
Jurong East Stadium will provide the setting as two sides that emerged unbeaten from Matchday 1 meet under the lights.
We would love to see the Hougang faithful making the journey west and bringing the same energy and support that was heard throughout our opening night at Bishan.
Tickets for the fixture are available online through the FC Jurong ticket page on Trip.com.
