The Young Cheetahs continued their encouraging progress in the Singapore Premier League 2 with a 1-1 draw against Balestier Khalsa at Bishan Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Hougang United returned to SPL2 action on Wednesday for our third match of the 2026/27 campaign, with the Young Cheetahs looking to build on a determined performance against Geylang International four days earlier.
Head Coach Razif Ariff's side started the encounter with good discipline and organisation, covering spaces well and competing strongly throughout the opening 45 minutes.
The Young Cheetahs also enjoyed promising moments going forward, particularly in the wide areas, where Hougang regularly found opportunities to advance and put the Balestier defence under pressure.
It was another competitive contest after the interval as both sides continued searching for opportunities to make the difference.
Hougang's attacking intent remained evident, with the Young Cheetahs looking to use the flanks and work their way into dangerous areas.
The breakthrough eventually arrived through Wong Ngaang Haang, who found the back of the net to give the Young Cheetahs the lead.
With the advantage secured, Hougang continued to compete strongly as Balestier searched for a response.
The Tigers eventually found their equaliser from a set-piece situation, bringing the scores level at 1-1.
There would be no further breakthrough before the final whistle, with the points ultimately shared at Bishan Stadium.
The draw represents another encouraging step forward for the Young Cheetahs following Saturday's closely fought encounter against Geylang International.
The discipline, work rate and attacking intent shown over the course of the evening were positive signs as the squad continues to gain valuable competitive experience and develop together.
