Hougang United continued preparations for the upcoming Singapore Premier League season with a 1-1 draw against Balestier Khalsa at Bedok Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Cheetahs returned to pre-season action on Sunday for another useful test ahead of the new campaign, facing fellow Singapore Premier League side Balestier Khalsa.
Played in warm conditions at Bedok Stadium, both teams competed closely throughout an evenly contested encounter.
Hougang created opportunities over the course of the match and had a chance to take the lead from the penalty spot, but the Balestier goalkeeper produced the save to keep the scores level.
The Tigers then found the breakthrough ten minutes after the restart.
Balestier regained possession in a deep area before taking advantage of the transition to open the scoring in the 55th minute.
The response from the Cheetahs was immediate.
Just five minutes later, Hougang worked the ball into a wide area before Ayman Kassimi delivered into the box, where Khairin Nadim arrived to finish from close range and make it 1-1.
With the scores level again, both sides continued searching for another breakthrough.
Hougang introduced Oakley Cannonier from the bench, with the striker providing a different option in attack and threatening with his movement behind the Balestier defensive line.
However, there would be no further breakthrough, with the two sides eventually settling for a 1-1 draw at Bedok Stadium.
The fixture provided another valuable 90 minutes as preparations for the new Singapore Premier League season continue, with Hougang once again creating opportunities against league opposition and responding positively after going behind.
